Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR)

The Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) has gone from
strength to strength, there are now 14 schemes in
operation across the electricity, gas and water industries
and there are more in the pipeline for development
in the New Year.

One of these recent developments has seen the EUSR
become affiliated with the Construction Skills
Certification Scheme (CSCS).

This move has major benefits to both individuals and employers in the sector.  In terms of individuals’ benefit, it will allow access too many construction sites; provide industry-wide recognition of skills, competence and qualifications; improve knowledge and awareness of workplace health and safety; identify training needs, with the chance to develop, improve and add to existing skills and also enhance individuals employment prospects.

In terms of the benefits to employers, it will again enable access to many construction sites; highlight staff within the workforce with recognised skills, competence and qualifications; enhance the health and safety awareness and the professional quality of the workforce; as well as identifying the training and development needs of the workforce and demonstrating the competence of the workforce.

All of the schemes that the EUSR delivers have been developed in partnership with employers from the industries; these partnerships are the key to the success of EUSR. It is highly important for all work carried out in the utility sector to be of a high standard, especially bearing in mind the safety, health and environmental risks.  A major factor in maintaining these standards is the need to ensure that the workforce employed in the sector is fully competent in all practical aspects of the job.
